BIOGRAPHIE

James Pickens Jr. est né le 26 octobre 1954 à Cleveland, dans l'Ohio. Le virus de la comédie l’a atteint alors qu’il était à la Bowling Green State University, lorsqu’il joue un rôle dans une production estudiantine, intitulée " Matters of Choice". Il sortira diplômé des Arts en 1976. Il fait ses premiers pas en tant qu'acteur en stage au Roundabout Theatre de New York où il tient le premier role dans "A Raisin In The Sun". En 1981, il joue dans la pièce "A Soldier Play", aux côtés de Denzel Wahsington et Samuel L. Jackons, une production de la Negro Ensemble Company. Il et commence sa carrière hollywoodienne en 1986 en interprétant un rôle dans le soap opera "Another World" qu’il tiendra jusqu’en 1990. C’est cette année qu’ il déménage définitivement sur la Côte Ouest. Il obtient alors des rôles parfois récurrents dans les séries "Curb Your Enthusiasm", "The West Wing", "Roseanne", "Beverly Hills 90210", "JAG", "Six Feet Under" et "Philly." Il mène de concert une carrière sur grand écran en apparaissant notamment dans "How Stella Got Her Grove Back" (1998), "Ghosts of Mississippi" (1996), "Sleepers" (1996), et "Traffic" (2000). En 2005, il connaît la célébrité en acceptant le rôle de Richard Webber dans la série Grey’s Anatomy. Pendant ses loisirs, James aime se consacrer jouer au golf. De plus, il est membre de l'équipe de rodéo des Etats-Unis. Il est marié et a deux enfants.
